Blackrocks Revisited : photo by Malcolm Aslett

This is a curious place in the Blue Ridge, Blackrock (Blackrocks? ) That I've visited before and have the photos to prove it (Tom on the Rocks ).

Alternative to the earlier one that became a long black and white this one turns to the textural colours. The forms are a wonderful jigsaw and very easy to 'join' and hide discrepancies.

The sky is a smoothed out piece that I left in an unfinished state because you can do that with skies. Anything goes at twenty thousand feet.

Below is a detail of one of the lichen in the bottom left. The textures and colours were enhanced because that is what we do in modern photography and pass off as the world. I guess there never was a faithful representation of the world in photographs but now it is taking many of its leads from the science fiction film perfection of objects and has to pump up the act.

Human figures give human scale as well as purpose. By the way, have you noticed that thing that people do at famous sites, where the person taking the photograph tries to get it without anyone but their partner showing, as if they are there on their own, as if the world is solely their playground, as if their wealth and social position allows them to be the only people at this ancient and sacred place known around the world for centuries? There is probably a name for it. A new name. I'll google it. Or make a word up for it. Let me think.

Tourisolo photographs. Tourlo foto. Turlos. Not that great but I only gave myself a minute.
